This is so exciting to have Marlene's companion cookbook finally out. Even before The Fall of General Custard was published, the idea of a cookbook seemed an obvious and fun project to complement my children's book about a community of foods living in a refrigerator. When I met Marlene, we agreed that the project just had to happen. And so it did, with Marlene creating the recipes, each paired with a its own rhyming introduction. I had so much fun assisting Marlene with brainstorming elements and details of the project in order to blend our books together thematically. I love this kind of creativity where I can keep ideas flowing from my own inspiration, vision, humor, and aesthetic sensibilities, while all the time riding the synergy that comes from opening up to my co-creator's inspiration, vision, humor and aesthetic sensibilities. What an energizing dance it is. So glad to have shared it with Marlene. And, of course, she and I certainly hope you enjoy the results!
